3 Ways to Have Perfect Skin & Keep It
Growing up, my mom always encouraged me to wash my face. I was so bad at it! I was so back and forth between religiously washing my face and not washing it at all. I realize now that having clean, fresh skin makes me feel so much better… and look better too.
Believe me, you do not have to be a perfect person to have perfect skin. It’s all in 3 easy steps.
The routine I use everyday.
1) Find Your Products
How your face looks is all about what you put in it, all the way down to what you eat and drink. You can find out more about how that affects your skin in my post here. But for right now, let’s focus on skin care products. Follow these steps:
1) Know your skin type. Is it normal? Dry? Oily? Combination?
2) Decide on what problems areas are you trying to resolve. Anti-aging? Dark circles under eyes? Acne? Etc?
If you’re not sure about these things, check out my post on 8 Skin Problems and How to Prevent Them.
3) Research the best products for you, using your skin type and problem areas. Read reviews. Test products in person. Some products might not be the right feel for you, or suit your needs.
One great way to find products, is to use the Mary Kay Skin Analyzer App. You take a picture of your face, and the app tells you exactly what products you need by analyzing texture, number and depth of wrinkles, skin tone, and under eye appearance.
Build A Routine
Ideally, you want to have a skincare routine for morning and night. Make it a non-negotiable. This is not only a time to clean your face, but a time to intentionally take care of yourself, each and every day. Keep it simple until you get into the habit. Here’s a graphic to remind you the order of your products. (You may not use all of these but you may also use multiples)
For me, it didn’t start as a morning and night thing. In all honesty, building my Mary Kay business has been the biggest motivator for me to consistently practice my routine, morning and night. (Getting paid to wash my face does make a big difference 😉). But its a super simple way to slow down at night and wake up each morning.
You don’t have to be perfect every single day to get results. But consistently showing up and doing the bare minimum, (maybe just washing your makeup off at the end of a long day) can often move you to finish the whole routine.
Re-evaluate Periodically
Taking the time to re-evaluate your regimen every 6 months to a year is highly recommended. This can help you check in on your results and tweak any products that aren’t working for you.
For example, if you have combination skin, you may notice the skin on the sides of your chin may be dry and flaky in the winter. This happens for me. Adding an extra intense moisturizer during this time tends to remedy this problem for me. This is the moisturizer I like to use on that area: Oil-Free Hydrating Gel (Normal/Oily)
Whether you just need a little reset at the end of the day or want to change your skin, you’re just 3 steps away from your perfect skin: find your skincare needs, build a routine, and re-evaluate as needed.
